A video conference on typhoon preparedness was held in Shenzhen municipality on the evening of Oct. 11. The leaders of Nanshan district, including district mayor Huang Xiangyue, the member of the standing committee Li Xiaoning, attended the meeting in the emergency command center.
It was stressed that the main leaders of all units should strictly implement the on-duty system, and all the emergency supplies and rescue teams in the district should be maintained in a state of readiness. The emergency shelters and resettlement sites should be prepared well, and supporting measures such as personnel and materials should be fully implemented to ensure that they are ready at any time. To carry out the instructions of the municipality, the whole district shall make emergency response preparations in accordance with the first-level standard.
At 18:30 on Oct. 11th, Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory upgraded the typhoon warning from white to blue for the land and sea areas of the city (including Shenzhen-Shantou cooperation zone).
Typhoon Kompasu, added with the cold air, will be the most severe typhoon in this year. Its wind will be strong and last for a long time. Citizens should not wend to beaches and islands and work offshore. Objects on the edge of the balcony or windowsill should be placed properly. Typhoon lionrock brought the rainfall that lasted long enough to accumulate larger amount of rainwater. That made the soil moisturized, leading to the risk of geological disasters. Such disasters have hysteretic nature, and the interval between two typhoons is short. People should stay away from river channels, low-lying areas, side slope, retaining walls, dilapidated buildings and other dangerous areas. Attention should be paid to the latest forecast issued by the observatory to take safety precautions.
