A digital entertainment platform headquartered in Nanshan District has become a new addition to the list of national-level cultural demonstration bases, according to the list released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently.

So far, Shenzhen boasts 12 national-level cultural demonstration bases, six of which are located in Nanshan, accounting for half of the city’s total.

While enjoying fame as an economic and technological powerhouse, Nanshan has nearly 15,000 cultural enterprises, which make up a fair share of the city’s industrial added value.

Digital entertainment platform iDreamSky, founded in Nanshan in 2009 and went public in Hong Kong in 2018, has been operating premium game IPs. In addition, iDreamSky has also launched multiple self-developed games and actively integrates elements in traditional Chinese culture and Chinese cities into the gaming software.

According to the company, it endeavors to help Chinese e-sports make a bigger splash on the world stage, and has spread Chinese elements through video games to over 30 countries and regions, with exports exceeding US$100 million in the past three years.

Nanshan has been given top priority to the e-sports industry where iDreamSky is engaged in.

At present, the revenue of Nanshan’s e-sports industry has exceeded 100 billion yuan (US$13.89 billion), accounting for about 80% of the city’s, 50% of the province’s, and 40% of the country’s total revenues of the e-sports industry, respectively, Chinese media outlet Nanfang Plus reported.

Meanwhile, a complete e-sports industrial chain has taken shape in Nanshan, and the district houses industrial leader Tencent and many other R&D, operation, and authorization enterprises, as well as e-sports clubs including Shenzhen DYG, Shenzhen STE, Shenzhen Wolves, and Shenzhen 4AM.
