The Shenzhen Municipal Transport Bureau unveiled a preliminary plan proposing nearly 16,000 new roadside parking spots across the city, including 1,693 in Nanshan District, inviting public feedback on the proposal.

About 84% of the 15,904 proposed parking spots will be allocated across Dapeng New Area, as well as Bao’an, Longgang, Longhua, Guangming, and Pingshan districts.

In Nanshan District, 1,693 parking spots will be added along 20 road sections, such as Nanbo Road 2, Longjing Road, and Zhuguang Road, spanning Nantou, Shahe, Taoyuan, Xili, and Yuehai subdistricts.

Notably, the proposal, which introduces the highest number of new roadside parking spots in recent years, includes a one-off plan for over 200 parking spaces across 10 roads, such as Zhuguang, Wanle, and Fangyuan roads.

The majority of these new parking facilities will be positioned near residential, commercial, and industrial areas, as well as schools and parks, according to the bureau.

Meanwhile, a few roadside parking spaces will be converted from free to paid parking.

Official data from the Shenzhen Road Traffic Management Center shows that the city currently boasts some 28,000 roadside parking spaces, largely concentrated in Futian (6,333), Bao’an (5,924), and Nanshan (5,327) districts.
