Nanshan shows robust momentum in AI industry

The CPC Nanshan District Committee and Nanshan District People's Government recently held a seminar on the high-quality development of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry. Over 20 experts and representatives offered valuable insights into propeling Nanshan's development as an innovation hub of the AI industry.

As a renowned economic and technological powerhouse in China, Nanshan District has a strong foundation for the AI industry.

The district, where enterprises of Shenzhen's AI industry largely concentrate, stands out for its complete industrial chain, focus on applications, and prominent scientific research capabilities.

The district’s Shenzhen Bay Eco-Tech Park, GemdaleViseen Software Park, and Nanshan iPark have gathered nearly 2,000 companies with AI patents and over 1,100 core AI companies, fostering a complete AI industrial chain encompassing the entire spectrum.

Meanwhile, it features a diverse AI ecosystem, boasting a number of leading enterprises with global competitiveness, such as Tencent, ZTE, and SenseTime, alongside industry leaders such as UBTECH and rising stars like Elevoc.

In 2023, Nanshan District issued an implementation plan for accelerating high-quality AI development and applications, aiming to promote the connection between scenario demand and AI companies.

This year, the district continued its efforts and organized a series of seminars focusing on the AI industry. Many AI companies are now actively seeking overseas opportunities and expanding markets.

UBTECH, known for its advanced service robots, is the epitome of Nanshan's unremitting pursuit of excellence in artificial intelligence industry. The company dedicated 56.5% of its total revenue to R&D from 2020 to the first half of 2023 and became a holder of 1,800 patents related to robotics and AI as of June 30, 2023.

According to an executive of SenseTime, a leading AI software company, the “SenseNova” foundation model set unveiled in April 2023 has advanced the AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) development and expanded the potential applications of large models.

The model, which received a further upgrade in February this year, has been widely used in diverse industries, such as finance, healthcare, and industrial manufacturing.
