Worldwide guests share insights on tech, innovation at SCO forum

Officials from government agencies, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member countries, together with invited guests and youth representatives from around the world and all walks of life gathered in Qianhai, Nanshan District on June 2 for the opening ceremony of the SCO Youth Technology and Innovation Forum.

Attendees to the forum had a thorough discussion based on the forum’s theme — "Youth Building Dreams of Technology, Innovation Leading the Future."

Prior to the opening ceremony, a total of six parallel sessions were held in Qianhai and Shaanxi Province to spotlight topics such as youth innovation and cooperation, green development, digital economy, artificial intelligence, people’s health, and poverty reduction cooperation and rural development.

During the on-site opening ceremony, representatives of each parallel session reported their respective sessions’ outcomes; some were reported via video link.

Li Hezhang, rector of Shenzhen MSU-BIT University (SMBU), presented outcomes of the Parallel Session on Youth Innovation and Cooperation.

Li said that the session had laid a solid foundation for friendly exchanges with youths from SCO countries. SMBU also formed partnerships with universities of SCO countries, research institutions and enterprises and expanded communication channels for youths from SCO countries.

Xu Tongbiao, chief economist from Shenzhen Energy Group, shared in his presentation the achievements of the Parallel Session on Green Development that Pennisetum giganteum z.x.lin (巨菌草) is widely recognized as a zero-carbon renewable energy resource and that the group expected more global cooperation in this field of research.

In addition to the achievement releases, the Shenzhen Initiative on SCO Youth Technology and Innovation Forum was introduced during the ceremony.

Three youth representatives from China (Shenzhen), Russia and India recited the initiative in Chinese, Russian and English at the ceremony venue.
