Nanshan District aims to build the country’s first demonstration model for vertical urban factories at its largest smart manufacturing base — Nanshan Zhizao (Honghualing Base) in Xili International Science and Education City area, Taoyuan Subdistrict, according to Shenzhen Economic Daily.

The project’s designer, Hong Kong Huayi Design Consultants (Shenzhen) Ltd., proposed a concept to integrate factories, offices, and research and development (R&D) centers in a high-rise building.

Nanshan Zhizao’s (Honghualing Base) Phase I renovation project covers nearly 82,000 square meters and has a total construction area of about 700,000 square meters.

As per the design plan, freight vehicles can directly go to the second, fifth and ninth floors via circular ramps and elevated roads so that several smaller factories can be built on different floors.

Each section can have a maximum of four stories, with altitude capped at 70 meters. Elevators will serve different specific sections for greater efficiency.

Nanshan Zhizao, a high-quality industrial park, will gather companies from biomedicine, smart manufacturing, industrial internet and big data sectors.
