With 10 days until the opening of the 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China, officials in Nanshan District held a mobilization meeting to ensure that preparations were complete for the major sporting event.

The Nanshan District Committee for the Games convened a pre-games mobilization meeting on Oct. 30, reviewing preparations and deploying final tasks for the upcoming competitions. The district is a core host area for the multi-sport event.

The meeting was attended by senior Nanshan officials, including Secretary of the CPC Nanshan District Committee Huang Xiangyue and District Mayor Li Xiaoning.

Nanshan is set to host three specific competitions: athletics (marathon), basketball (women’s U22), and volleyball (women’s U18). Since the establishment of the district’s games committee, various departments have been collaborating closely.

The meeting emphasized the national significance of the National Games, stating that hosting a successful event is a major political task and a glorious mission for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region. It was described as an innovative practice of the “one country, two systems” principle in sports and a key strategic move to advance the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Officials were urged to unite efforts to deliver games that demonstrate institutional advantages, unite strength, showcase the characteristics of the Greater Bay Area, and reflect Lingnan style.

The Games were also framed as a significant opportunity to drive high-quality development in Nanshan and a test of the urban district’s comprehensive capabilities.

Authorities plan to leverage the National Games to deepen the integration of sports with education, technology, culture, and tourism, thereby boosting the event’s economy and enhancing the district’s image.

All departments have been instructed to strengthen coordination and focus on responsibility, safety, quality, and teamwork. Key areas including venue operations, IT support, volunteer services, and cultural-tourism-commercial integration must be ensured to be foolproof, distinctive, and innovative.

The 15th National Games, jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, is a landmark event for regional cooperation in China. The National Games are scheduled to open on Nov. 9.
