The story of Nanshan District’s remarkable transformation, from its rural past to its status as a modern tech and economic hub, has been documented in a recently released new book.
The book, “The Oral History of Nanshan (V),” was launched at an event on Oct. 29.

The event vividly charted the district’s evolution. An AI video depicted the journey from the historic Nantou Ancient Town to its recent renovations, contrasting old street scenes with visions of the future. A sand art and performance piece presented by a team from Nantou Subdistrict, was a highlight at the event, illustrating changes in daily life.
Li Xianqi, the former principal of Nanshan Experimental School, shared his experience of moving from Hubei Province in 1992 to help pioneer the district’s education system. He recounted his efforts at Chiwan Primary School and developing an “interest-based quality education” philosophy, exemplifying the pioneering spirit the event sought to honor.
The personal stories were complemented by an original folk song expressing the affection of a new generation for the district.
The newly published “The Oral History of Nanshan (V)” is the latest volume in a series dedicated to preserving the firsthand accounts of the individuals who built the now-prosperous district.
