With the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals approaching, Huang Xiangyue, secretary of the CPC Nanshan District Committee met with David Haggerty, president of International Tennis Federation (ITF) and his delegation on Sept. 15. Bai Xilin, director of China's Tennis Administration Center, also attended the meeting.

Huang described Nanshan as the place where "the first shot of China's reform and opening-up was fired," noting that after 35 years of development, the district has achieved significant success in economic output, technological innovation, and cultural sports. He expressed confidence that hosting the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Nanshan would inspire more people to love tennis and promote the sport. Under the guidance of the Tennis Administration Center, Nanshan hopes to strengthen cooperation with the ITF in event organization, youth training system development, sports industry upgrading, and tennis governance, aiming to make the Billie Jean King Cup a more influential international event while promoting economic, trade, and cultural exchanges.

Haggerty praised China's enormous potential in the tennis market and its strong sports culture atmosphere. "We are honored that the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Finals will be held in Nanshan, and we sincerely thank all parties for their strong support in the preparation work," he said, expressing confidence that the event will be extraordinary. The ITF is willing to maintain closer cooperation with Shenzhen's Nanshan, expanding cooperation in talent training and sports industries to promote a healthy and vibrant lifestyle, cultivate more outstanding athletes, especially young talents, and expand tennis's influence worldwide and in China.

Bai noted that tennis has developed rapidly in China, and the first Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen's Nanshan would not be possible without the ITF's support. "Nanshan is not only a nationally renowned economic powerhouse but also a new highland for future tennis development," he said, expressing hope that the district would host a successful event, deepen sports reform, and accelerate cooperation with the ITF. The Tennis Administration Center will continue to support Shenzhen's tennis development, helping Nanshan become a world-renowned tennis powerhouse.

District leader Mo Shilong also participated in the meeting.
