The Spring Festival travel rush began with a bustling start on Jan. 14, 2025, as Nanshan District reported a cumulative total of over 15,000 passengers arriving and departing on the first day alone.
The district dispatched 8,309 passengers to various destinations, with 3,797 traveling by road and 4,512 by waterway. Simultaneously, 6,700 passengers arrived in Nanshan, comprising 2,423 land arrivals and 4,277 waterway arrivals.
Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, a major gateway, saw a high volume of inbound and outbound traffic, with a total of 96,575 personnel inspections, including 47,722 inbound and 48,853 outbound travelers. The Shekou Cruise Homeport and Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint are anticipating significant travel volumes throughout the rush period.
To manage the anticipated surge, the Shenzhen Transportation Bureau Nanshan Administration has arranged for 10 emergency transport vehicles to be on standby at both the Shekou Cruise Homeport and Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint before and after the Spring Festival. This measure is aimed at ensuring smooth and orderly traffic, particularly during peak passenger flow times.
In addition to these transportation efforts, the service hours for several Metro lines and bus routes will be extended to accommodate the increased travel needs. From Jan. 23 to Feb. 1, and from Feb. 2 to Feb. 14, Metro lines 1, 2, 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13, which pass through the district, will operate for extended hours. This includes regional bus routes serving Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, providing more convenience for residents and travelers.
The 2025 Spring Festival travel rush is set to last for 40 days, concluding on Feb. 22.
