The final round of the 2024 Ecological Beauty Guangdong Competition wrapped up on Dec. 26, with a spectacular showcase of ecological commitment from nine counties (districts, towns) across the Pearl River Delta's core area. In a neck-and-neck race for environmental excellence, Nanshan District emerged victorious, clinching a spot in the province's top 10.
The competition venue was abuzz with activity as Huang Xiangyue, Party chief of the CPC Nanshan District Committee, led his team in a spirited "battle" to demonstrate the district's robust efforts in ecological protection.
After intense competition and meticulous scoring by a panel of expert judges and the audience, Nanshan District, along with Wanshan District in Zhuhai City, Duanzhou District in Zhaoqing City, and Longmen County in Huizhou City, were named among the top 10 eco-conscious regions in Guangdong Province. Moreover, the performances by the Nanshan team were recognized with the Excellent Program Award.
Nanshan's commitment to environmental stewardship is quantifiable and impressive. In the spring of 2024, the district embarked on a massive tree-planting initiative, with 1,605 trees planted through volunteer efforts, 2,000 trees donated by local businesses, and 9,156 trees added for urban greening purposes. This resulted in an additional green area of 91,500 square meters.
Nanshan also fulfilled its forestry key tasks by precisely improving the quality of 778 acres of forest and establishing one ancient tree park. The district furthered its eco-friendly agenda by launching a mangrove wetland restoration plan, covering an area of approximately 7.5 hectares and featuring two "small and micro wetland+" demonstration sites.
