Nanshan crowned most competitive in China’s top 100 districts

Nanshan District has secured the top position among the nation’s most competitive district, according to a report unveiled by the Competitiveness Think Tank and the Beijing Zhongxin Urban Planning and Design Research Institute recently.

The report highlights that the top 100 districts in China are spread across 14 provinces, with Guangdong Province boasting 21 entries. These districts are characterized by robust economic activity, a stabilizing and recovering consumer market, and accelerated optimization of industrial structures.

According to the report, the average gross domestic product (GDP) of China’s top 100 districts stands at 214.88 billion yuan (US$29.7 billion). Additionally, the average per capita regional GDP is 187,800 yuan, more than double the national average.

Nanshan District, renowned as an economic powerhouse, a leader in science and technology, and a hub of innovation in China, is the first district in Guangdong to achieve a GDP exceeding 800 billion yuan.

In the first three quarters of 2024, Nanshan reported a regional GDP of 661.37 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 4.3% at constant prices.

At present, there are 215 listed companies in Nanshan, with 1.1 listed companies per square kilometer, ranking first in density in the country. The number of national high-tech enterprises has exceeded 5,000. The number of invention patents per 10,000 people in the district is 676.9, which is about 23 times the national level.
