The Nanshan District Gaming Industry High-Quality Development Symposium was convened at Kexing Science Park on Sept. 29, bringing together stakeholders to delve into the current state, trends, and challenges of the gaming sector. Huang Xiangyue, Party chief of Nanshan District, graced the occasion, emphasizing the district's commitment to fostering the industry's growth.
In recent times, the gaming industry in Nanshan has flourished, propelled by a combination of favorable policies, technological advancements, and market dynamics. The region is now home to approximately 2,500 gaming-related enterprises, which collectively generated over 150 billion yuan in revenue in 2023.
The symposium saw participation from officials of Shenzhen and Nanshan District, representatives from more than ten leading gaming companies, and delegates from publishing media, industry associations, academic institutions, research bodies, and science parks. They engaged in a lively exchange of ideas and offered constructive suggestions for the industry's advancement.
Song Ge, public affairs director of Tencent Interactive Entertainment, highlighted the company's efforts to expand market reach, develop a unique e-sports ecosystem, and integrate digital and real-world experiences. He advocated for further bolstering Guangdong Province's position as a gaming industry powerhouse, encouraging the development of small-scale games, and supporting companies in navigating both domestic and international markets. He also stressed the need for talent cultivation and incentive policies.
Yan Peishi, senior vice president of iDreamSky, discussed in-depth the challenges in game development, industry clustering, investment, and the need for artistic professionals. Yan proposed the enhancement of industry policies, the support for high-quality original games, and the emphasis on the global reach of games. She also called for the establishment of financing platforms and the acceleration of talent pools.
Dong Bin,director of www.Q1.com, acknowledged the industry's rapid growth and the push towards international markets. He underscored the importance of product innovation and compliance with changing policies and regulations.
Ying Zhongwei, general manager of Grand Unity Publication & Media, praised Nanshan's rich technological and educational resources, noting its leading role in the cultural industry. Ying recommended the continuous update of industrial policies, the establishment of a national game talent training base, and the promotion of the district as a hub for major exhibitions and research institutions.
Ren Peiwen, deputy secretary general of Guangdong Entertainment & Game Industry Association, emphasized the need to enhance the industry's competitive edge, support long-life-cycle game IPs, and integrate games with traditional Chinese culture to expand their global appeal.
Huang expressed gratitude for the valuable insights provided by the attendees and recognized the gaming industry's role in driving high-quality development through its integration with technology and culture. He vowed to leverage Nanshan's advantages, support independent innovation, and enhance policy support to cultivate talent and promote the industry's global reach, thereby contributing to a robust, orderly, and sustainable industrial ecosystem.
Huang concluded by emphasizing the importance of cultural confidence and the role of the gaming industry in promoting Chinese culture and storytelling, aiming to enhance China's influence in global communications and support the nation's cultural strength.
