Huang Xiangyue, secretary of the CPC Nanshan District Committee, met with Phil Mauger, mayor of Christchurch, New Zealand, in Nanshan on Aug. 4.

Huang, on behalf of the CPC Nanshan District Committee and the district government, expressed welcome to the Christchurch delegation and introduced the district’s economic and social development.

He said that Christchurch and Shenzhen have established friendly exchange relations, and although the two cities are in different hemispheres, they have always maintained close contact. 

According to Huang, over the past 30 years since its establishment, Nanshan has adhered to opening up, integration, and sharing, and has strengthened international exchanges and cooperation. In June this year, a Nanshan economic and trade delegation visited Christchurch. 

Looking to the future, he hoped that the two sides would further deepen cooperation in the fields of trade, science and technology, tourism, and animal husbandry, expand cultural exchanges, enhance mutual learning between civilizations, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. 

He also hoped that the delegation would visit more places, experience the vibrant and diverse aspects of modern China, and feel the warmth and vitality of Nanshan.

Mauger expressed that Shenzhen was the first stop of their trip to China, and the delegation would visit more cities for study and observation. 

According to Mauger, Shenzhen, with its towering buildings and pleasant environment, has developed rapidly over the past 40 years of reform and opening up and is a very vibrant city. The exchanges between the two cities have a long history, with frequent interactions in the fields of education, culture, tourism, and trade.

Mauger said they are willing to use this visit as a new starting point to strengthen cooperation with Shenzhen and Nanshan District in various fields, share opportunities, and pass on friendship, continuing the tradition of close contacts between the two places. 

He also extended an invitation to the Nanshan delegation to visit Christchurch for inspection and exchange, exploring new cooperation opportunities.
