The Eighth Nanshan District People’s Congress concluded its fourth session on Jan. 28, with elections, resolution votes, and closing speeches from district officials.

Li Xiaoning was elected as the district mayor of Nanshan District People’s Government and Chu Qing as the director of the Nanshan District Supervisory Commission at the meeting. After the election and voting on the resolutions, Li and Chu made a pledge of allegiance to the Constitution.

Huang Xiangyue, secretary of the CPC Nanshan District Committee, gave a speech at the closing ceremony. He hailed the meeting as a resounding success, praising the deputies for their commitment to the people’s well-being, their thoughtful deliberations, and their strong sense of responsibility.

Huang pointed out that 2023 was a year of remarkable high-quality development for Nanshan District. In 2024, a pivotal year for China and the “14th Five-Year Plan,” all the deputies must uphold Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and CPC’s leadership, and continue to leverage their strengths in accordance with the law to promote the high-quality development of Nanshan District, while putting people’s needs and concerns high on the agenda.

He also stressed that the CPC Nanshan District Committee, under the CPC’s leadership, will continue to empower deputies by providing robust support and resolving obstacles they encounter. The government, supervisory commission, people’s court, and procuratorate of Nanshan District should embrace supervision by the people’s congress, diligently follow its decisions, collaborate fully with its legal functions, and constantly work to elevate the level of law-based governance and judicial fairness, according to Huang.

Cheng Zhenghua, the executive chairman of the presidium of the meeting, urged all deputies to pool their wisdom to achieve the goals set by the congress, work tirelessly to build Nanshan into a world-class and innovation-oriented coastal district and a model in Shenzhen’s practice of Chinese modernization.
