A sprawling new green space overlooking Shenzhen Bay opened to the public on July 30, turning land above Binhai Boulevard into a recreational link between the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base and Shenzhen Bay Park.

Covering approximately 105,000 square meters, or 10.5 hectares, the site features broad lawns and landscaped areas where visitors can walk, jog, relax or spend time with their families. It also gives people living and working in the headquarters district direct access to the waterfront.

The opening comes as much of the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base remains under construction. For nearby office workers, the new space provides an outdoor retreat within one of the city’s emerging business districts.

Bao Jiaxin, who works nearby, said the transformation from a construction site into parkland had created a space for employees to walk, exercise or have informal meetings with clients.

The newly opened site is part of the planned central green axis through the headquarters district. Approximately 57,000 square meters on its eastern and western sides has been completed as permanent public green space connecting the district with Shenzhen Bay Park.

The remaining 48,000 square meters in the center has been landscaped temporarily and opened for public use. It will be upgraded as the broader central green axis project moves forward.

The green-axis park is planned to cover approximately 255,800 square meters when completed, extending from Baishi Road in the north to Shenzhen Bay Park in the south. Longer-term plans call for it to become an urban corridor integrating parkland, public services, transportation, commercial facilities and cultural spaces.

The corridor is ultimately expected to help connect Shenzhen Bay with the OCT Wetland, green areas near Tanglang Mountain and the Dasha River Ecological Corridor.

Getting there

Take Metro Line 9 to Hongshuwan South Station and leave through Exit A. Follow the temporary planter-lined passage through the CMB headquarters complex and RAIL IN shopping center to reach the waterfront green space.

People approaching from the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base can enter Shenzhen Bay Park via the footbridge on Shenwan First Road or nearby street-level pedestrian crossings. Because the passage from the Metro station is temporary, visitors should follow signs posted on-site.
