The Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, a beacon of athletic grandeur in the Nanshan District, is on the brink of a remarkable transformation as it gears up to host the 15th National Games later this year. With a projected completion date of the end of September, this iconic venue is poised to welcome sports enthusiasts from across the nation with its newly revamped facilities, embodying a fusion of wisdom, sustainability, and human-centric design.
The 15th National Games, a prestigious multisport event scheduled for November, will span across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, with the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center playing a crucial role as a competition hub. The center, which has previously hosted elite events like the Universiade and the FIBA Basketball World Cup, is now in the final stages of its renovation and upgrade project, ensuring it meets the highest international standards.
Basketball fans are in for a treat as the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center Gymnasium will host the women’s under-22 basketball group stage competitions. The venue is expected to draw over 400 athletes, coaches, and technical officials, providing them with a state-of-the-art environment for competition and training.
The upgrades to the sports center are nothing short of impressive. The gymnasium now boasts new FIBA-certified sports wooden flooring, enhanced LED display screens, and an upgraded sound reinforcement system, all designed to offer athletes a professional setting and spectators an immersive experience. The lighting system has also been overhauled, ensuring a professional-grade lighting environment for the events.
At the heart of the renovation is a commitment to digital intelligence and green low-carbon practices. The Shenzhen Bay Sports Center is leading the way in smart venue construction, with a comprehensive energy service platform that manages smart energy and carbon assets through informationization and digitization. AI-driven energy-saving technologies and real-time monitoring of energy consumption are set to make the venue a model of efficient and sustainable operation.
In line with Shenzhen’s “Guidelines for Pilot Construction of Near Zero Carbon Emission Zones,” the sports center is also striving to construct near-zero carbon buildings, underscoring its dedication to environmental stewardship.
Accessibility has been a key focus of the renovation, with the addition and upgrade of barrier-free facilities including toilets, showers, parking spaces, wheelchair seats, elevators, and tactile paving. A comprehensive barrier-free signage system and service desks have been implemented to ensure that the venue is fully accessible to all visitors.
