Nanshan District’s regional gross domestic product (GDP) surpassed 950 billion yuan (US$130 billion) in 2024, marking its 12th consecutive year as the top-performing district (county) in Guangdong Province, according to statistics released by the Nanshan District Statistics Bureau on Feb. 10.
The GDP growth, calculated at constant prices, was 4.1% year on year. This robust expansion is attributed to the district’s continuous efforts in optimizing and upgrading its industrial structure.
In 2024, the added value of Nanshan’s primary industry reached 185 million yuan, reflecting a year-on-year decrease of 9.3%. However, the secondary industry, which was critical to the district’s economic growth, registered a year-on-year increase of 5% in added value, amounting to 228.92 billion yuan. The tertiary industry’s added value also grew by 3.8% from a year ago, reaching 720.99 billion yuan.
Nanshan District has been focusing on high-tech industries in recent years, introducing a series of supportive policies to encourage enterprises to increase research and development investment and promote product upgrades. These measures have significantly contributed to the district’s economic growth.
In addition, the bureau revised Nanshan’s GDP for 2023 to 906.77 billion yuan, an increase of 50.17 billion yuan from the previously announced figure of 856.6 billion yuan, based on China’s national economic accounting system and the results of the Fifth National Economic Census.
