Located in the southwest of Nanshan District and at the south end of Nantou Peninsula, Zhaoshang Subdistrict, previously known as Shuiwan Subdistrict, was established in February 1991 and renamed in November 1993. Zhaoshang Subdistrict is bounded by Houhaibin Road in the east and is adjacent to Shenzhen Bay. It is bounded by the Port of Chiwan in the west and Shuiwan Road in the south and is adjacent to Shekou Subdistrict. In the north, it is bounded by Dananshan, whose ridge relates to Chiwan Right Battery, respectively bordering Yuehai Subdistrict and Nanshan Subdistrict.
Zhaoshang Subdistrict covers a total area of 20.14 square kilometers, having jurisdiction over 11 community neighborhood committees including Chiwan, Wuwan, Shuiwan, Huaguoshan, Yanshan, Taohuayuan, Sihai, Lanyuan, Guiyuan, Wenzhuyuan and Haiyue. It manages and serves a total population of 149,200, of which 98,200 are registered residents. Under its jurisdiction, there are a number of landmark buildings such as Sea World and Shekou Cruise Homeport, as well as historical and cultural sites such as Chiwan Tianhou Temple, Left Battery, and Song Shaodi’s Tomb. The China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, the Shekou Area of Shenzhen, with an area of 13.2 square kilometers, is within the jurisdiction of Zhaoshang Subdistrict.
