Established in February 1991, Yuehai Subdistrict has jurisdiction over a total area of around 14 square kilometers, bordering Shahe Road West to the east, Nanhai Boulevard to the west, Dongbin Road to the south, and Beihuan Boulevard to the north. It is the only subdistrict neighboring the other seven subdistricts in Nanshan District. It has 16 communities and manages a total population of over 600,000, of which around 390,000 are registered individuals.Yuehai Subdistrict has the following characteristics:
First, Nanshan District’s main "grain" production area clustered with many enterprises, especially high-tech companies. It has 34,000 commercial entities within the jurisdiction, of which many are famous enterprises, such as China Resources, Aerospace Hi-Tech, CNOOC, China Railway Group Limited, RAINBOW, Alibaba, Baidu, Mangocity, ZTE, Tencent, Mindray, Kingdee, EVOC GROUP, Han’s Laser, FANGDA, TCL, FANTAWILD, A8 music, KUANG-CHI INSTITUTE, DJI, Royole Corporation, and Thunder Technology.
Second, a gathering of higher learning institutions and research institutes. It owns Shenzhen University and Shenzhen Virtual University Park, the latter of which is China’s earliest university park and was set up by the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Shenzhen Municipal Government as well as Peking University, Tsinghua University, and other well-known universities both at home and abroad. The Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering Academician Activity Base and the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences also have branches in the jurisdiction.
Third, beautiful environment. Located in the central area of Nanshan District, Yuehai Subdistrict has an outstanding geographical position accessible to rivers, lakes and bays, with Binhai Boulevard, Shennan Boulevard and Beihuan Boulevard running from the east to the west. What is more, it boasts Talent Park, the Dasha Ecological Corridor and Shenzhen Bay Park. Fourth, a “Fair Stars” subdistrict featuring highlighted fashion culture. The rich life of almost 20,000 students and teachers from Shenzhen University makes the subdistrict overflowing with a strong cultural atmosphere. Hi-tech enterprises take the lead in China’s enterprise culture and white-collar culture. More than a hundred cultural and sports activities each year are held in Shenzhen Bay Sports Center, which has become an important highlight of China’s popular culture. Grass Concert performances, Poly Citizen Cultural Lecture Hall events and other programs drive the trend of popular culture in Shenzhen and even in China.
