Nanshan District is the economic engine of Shenzhen and one of China's most dynamic innovation hubs. In 2025, the district achieved a historic milestone, becoming China's first district‑level administrative region with a GDP exceeding one trillion yuan. Its GDP reached 1,010.238 billion yuan (approximately US$140 billion), growing by 6.3% year‑on‑year at constant prices — outpacing the national average of 5.0%, Guangdong Province's 3.9%, and Shenzhen's 5.5%. This places Nanshan alongside Shanghai's Pudong New Area and Beijing's Haidian District as one of only three trillion‑yuan districts in China.
Covering just 185 square kilometers — less than one‑tenth of Shenzhen's total area — Nanshan contributes over a quarter of the city's economic output. Its economic density is an extraordinary 5.4 billion yuan per square kilometre, with per capita GDP exceeding 540,000 yuan.
Nanshan's business climate is further strengthened by:
A full‑spectrum supply chain
Pro‑business government policies
Affordable industrial space, with nearly 1 million square meters of policy‑supported R&D and manufacturing space offered at 30% to 70% of market rates
Talent attraction programs, including free accommodation for up to 15 days for new graduates and subsidized housing for startup talent
The "iNanshan" integrated service platform, which offers 541 services with a single application
A "Unicorn Corridor" connecting Liuxiandong, Shenzhen Bay, the Dasha River Innovation Corridor, and the Houhai Financial Headquarters Base, forming one of China's densest concentrations of innovation resources.
