For China’s new individual income tax (IIT) law was implemented at January 1st, an event of the new IIT law training for HRs/accountants, who are responsible for the tax payments of their expatriate employees, was organized by Shekou Management and Service Center for Expats on the afternoon of January 8th, 2019, in order to enhance their knowledge of IIT law and related tax declaration procedures, and to maintain expatriate employees’ legal interests.
Officials were invited to give this lecture and answer to audience' questions who are all expert in IIT law from the International Tax Management Division of Shekou Tax Bureau. The lecture was constructed by four parts—how to tell the tax identity of foreign individuals (resident taxpayers or non-resident taxpayers), how to classify taxable income for foreign individuals under different situations, how to declare and pay tax, and items about deductions, tax credits and so on. Puzzles about the new IIT law from attendants were answered by officials after the lecture and a WeChat group was provided for audience to have more questions to be answered after the event. Liu Xiaofan, official from the International Tax Management Division, delivered the lecture and Liu Yiwen, director of the Department of Law, also participated in the event.
More than 100 audiences from more than 60 companies attended this event, all of whom were totally appealed to the lecture, active in taking notes and asking questions.
The audience responded that this event was very helpful for them to know the new IIT law clearer and carry out their work for expatriate employees’ tax payments. Some foreign managers and accountants also attended the event.
To popularize the new IIT law among expats and to solve their puzzles directly, the Management and Service Center is going to hold another IIT law tax seminar for expats in mid January, 2019.
